Surface batteries: what the signs mean
Screen lifting out of the frame
A swelling Surface battery pushes the display away from the body, usually along one edge first. Stop charging and stop using the device, and do not press the screen back in.
Charging stops at 80%
Surface devices have Smart charging, which holds the battery at 80% when the device spends most of its time plugged in. A heart on the battery icon shows it is active. It protects the battery and is not a fault.
The battery is sealed in
On Surface Pro models the battery is glued inside the body behind the display, so replacing it means taking the screen off first.
