Keyboard & Trackpad Repair — FAQ
Can you replace a single key?
Sometimes, if the key clip and cap are available. Often the full keyboard is the more reliable fix — we tell you which after diagnosis.
My keyboard stopped after a spill. What should I do?
Power it off right away, do not charge it, and bring it in.
Can I keep working with a USB keyboard for now?
Yes. An external USB or Bluetooth keyboard works on almost any laptop and is a safe stopgap while you wait for a repair, unless the fault came from a spill. After a spill, leave the laptop switched off.
Why does replacing a keyboard mean opening the whole laptop?
On many current laptops the keyboard is built into the top case, the part your palms rest on, so the repair replaces that whole section. On others it lifts out from above. The written estimate says which applies to yours.
