Acer screens: what to know before a repair
Hinges that pull out of the lid
On some Aspire and Nitro models the hinges are screwed into plastic mounts inside the lid. When a mount cracks the hinge pulls free, the lid twists every time it is opened, and the panel often cracks from the corner beside it. A new screen fitted over a broken mount can crack the same way.
One model name, several screens
Acer sells one model — an Aspire 5 or a Nitro 5, say — with different panels: different resolutions, refresh rates and connectors. The replacement is matched to the part number printed on the back of the original panel.
Spin touchscreens and the stylus
On Spin 2-in-1 models the layer that reads touch and the Acer Active Stylus is part of the display. A crack that looks cosmetic can leave part of the screen dead to a finger or the pen, and it is repaired by replacing the display.
