ASUS batteries: what the settings and warnings mean

Charging that stops at 60% or 80%

MyASUS can limit how far the battery charges, because a battery kept at 100% wears faster. Newer ASUS laptops call it Battery Care Mode, which stops at 80%. Older ones call it Battery Health Charging, with three settings: Full Capacity (100%), Balanced (80%) and Maximum Lifespan (60%). A laptop that stops at exactly one of those figures is following the setting.

The battery check in MyASUS

MyASUS has a System Diagnosis section with a Battery Problems check. It runs with the charger connected and reports whether the battery is healthy or below the capacity it should have.

USB-C charging on ROG and TUF

Gaming models are built around their own high-wattage charger. Many also charge from a USB-C charger, but at a lower wattage than the laptop uses when it is working hard — so the battery can run down while plugged in. That is how they are designed, not a battery fault.

A lifting touchpad

On thin ZenBook and VivoBook models the battery sits under the palm rest and touchpad. A touchpad that lifts or stops clicking, or a base that no longer sits flat, points to a swollen battery. Stop charging it.

ASUS Battery Replacement — FAQ

Why does my ASUS stop charging at 60% or 80%?

Usually a MyASUS setting, not a fault: Battery Care Mode, or Battery Health Charging on older laptops, limits the charge so the battery lasts longer.

Is it the battery or the charger?

We test both before replacing anything.

Is a swollen battery dangerous?

Yes. Stop charging it and bring it in.

How long does it take?

Most common repairs take between an hour and a day when the battery is in stock. If it has to be ordered, we give you the expected time with your written estimate, before you approve the repair.
