ASUS screens: what to know before a repair

OLED panels and ghost images

Many recent ZenBook and VivoBook models have an OLED panel instead of an LCD. An image left on screen for long periods can leave a faint ghost of itself. MyASUS includes ASUS OLED Care — a pixel refresh that runs while the laptop is idle, and a pixel shift that moves the picture very slightly — to reduce it. A ghost that is still there after a pixel refresh is in the panel.

Flicker at low brightness

An OLED has no backlight to turn down, so it dims by switching its pixels on and off very quickly. Some people see that as a shimmer at low brightness, and MyASUS has an OLED flicker-free dimming setting for it. Flicker that comes and goes as the lid moves is a different fault, and points at the display cable.

ScreenPad and two-screen models

ZenBook Duo models have a second display above the keyboard, and some ZenBook and VivoBook models have a ScreenPad in place of the touchpad. Each is a separate part from the main screen with its own cable, so one can fail while the other works.

ROG and TUF gaming panels

The same ROG or TUF model is sold with different screens — 60 Hz, 144 Hz and faster. A replacement is matched to the part number printed on the back of the original panel, not to the laptop’s model name alone.

ASUS Screen Repair — FAQ

Do you replace OLED screens on ASUS ZenBook and VivoBook laptops?

Yes. OLED panels are specific to the model, so the written estimate names the exact part first.

My ZenBook OLED flickers at low brightness. Is the screen faulty?

Often not — OLED panels dim by pulsing. Try the flicker-free dimming setting in MyASUS before booking a repair.

Are you an ASUS authorized repair center?

No — we are independent.

How long does it take?

Most common repairs take between an hour and a day when the screen is in stock. If it has to be ordered, we give you the expected time with your written estimate, before you approve the repair.
