Dell screens: what to know before a repair
Dell’s built-in screen test
Most Dell laptops have an LCD self-test: with the laptop off, hold the D key and press the power button, and the screen cycles through solid colours. Lines or patches that appear there too come from the panel or its cable, not from Windows or a driver.
XPS displays come as a full assembly
On XPS 13 and XPS 15 the panel is bonded into the lid behind edge-to-edge glass, so the display is normally replaced as a complete top assembly.
Inspiron and Latitude
On most Inspiron and Latitude models the panel is a separate part held behind a plastic bezel, so it can usually be replaced without changing the whole lid.

Dell Screen Repair — FAQ
Does Dell warranty cover a cracked screen?
Only with Dell accidental damage coverage. Standard warranty covers defects.
Do you repair XPS screens?
Yes. Many XPS models use a sealed display assembly, so the whole lid section is replaced rather than the panel alone, and that costs more than on most other Dells. Your written estimate gives the price for your model.
How long does it take?
Most common repairs take between an hour and a day when the screen is in stock. If it has to be ordered, we give you the expected time with your written estimate, before you approve the repair.
