HP screens: what to know before a repair
A black screen is not always the screen
On HP laptops a blank display with the Caps Lock or Num Lock light blinking in a pattern is a startup error code. It points at memory, the system board or graphics hardware rather than the panel.
x360 touchscreens
On Pavilion x360, Envy x360 and Spectre x360 models the touch glass and LCD are bonded together, so a crack in the glass means replacing the two as one part.
Hinges and cracked corners
A stiff or broken hinge twists the lid every time it is opened and often cracks the panel from a corner. If the hinge is left as it is, a new screen can crack the same way.
