MacBook screens: what to know before a repair
The display is one sealed assembly
On Retina MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models the glass, the LCD panel and the aluminium lid are bonded together. A cracked or lined screen is replaced as a complete display assembly, not as a bare panel.
A “stage light” glow along the bottom
On some 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pro models a worn display flex cable causes uneven bright patches along the bottom edge, or a screen that goes dark when the lid is opened wide. That is a cable fault rather than a cracked panel.
Cracks from closing the lid
The gap between a MacBook’s keyboard and its display is very small. A camera cover, a keyboard cover or a crumb on the palm rest can crack the panel when the lid is shut.

Is it worth replacing a MacBook screen?
Compare the written estimate with what the MacBook would cost to replace. A common rule of thumb is that a repair makes sense when it costs well under half the price of a comparable replacement and the rest of the laptop is healthy.
Does AppleCare+ cover a cracked MacBook screen?
AppleCare+ includes accidental damage coverage with a service fee, handled by Apple. If you have it, we will tell you — it may be cheaper.
How long does a MacBook screen replacement take?
Most common repairs take between an hour and a day when the display is in stock. If it has to be ordered, we give you the expected time with your written estimate, before you approve the repair.
